Control Of Diabetes

Diabetics need to modify their lifestyle in order to control diabetes and minimize the complications caused by diabetes.  There are 4 lifestyle modifications which are needed to be carried out immediately.  In some cases, these modifications will be sufficient to control type 2 diabetes.

Diabetic Diet Modification :

Diabetic Diet modification is another key element to control diabetes.  A balanced diet plus the appropriate use of food supplements can alter the insulin insensitivity, prevent obesity, and help prevent the complications arise from diabetes.

Sugar Level Monitoring:

Home monitoring of sugar level is an effective way to keep diabetes under control.  Either urine or blood can be tested at home to measure the sugar or glucose levels but blood testing is a more precise technique.

Blood Sugar Level Table to help you in monitoring your blood sugar level.

Normal and target blood glucose ranges (mg/dL)

Normal blood glucose levels in people who do not have diabetes
Upon waking  70 to 110
After meals 70 to 140
Target blood glucose levels in people who have diabetes
Before meals 90 to 130
1 to 2 hours after the start of a meal less than 180

Exercise :

Exercise can help to keep your sugar level under control and lower your insulin requirement.  Generally for people in good health, the more exercise you get the less insulin your are likely to require and the more stable your diabetes will be.  A study from Yale University has shown that exercise did not only increase the number of insulin receptors on the cells, it also increased the insulin sensitivy of these cells which is especially beneficial for type 2 diabetics.

Smoking:

Smoking is out for the diabetics.  Dont't smoke anything.  Diabetics have a greater tendency to get heart and vascular problem and very prone to foot and leg ulcers.  Smoking is well known to consrict blood vessels in the heart as well as smaller vessels in the legs and feet.  This reduces blood circulation and compounds the problem.

Just follow these 4 factors and you will go a long way in controlling and limiting the complications associate with diabetes.
