Heart Attacks (Arteriosclerosis)

Arteriosclerosis is the narrowing of large arteries by deposition of fats on the arteries walls.  Diabetes accelerates the clogging, causing diabetics to be 2 times more prone to have this problem compared to the general population.

Arteriosclerosis manifests itself as heart attack, stroke and gangrene of legs due to shortage of blood.

Preventive Measure:

Diabetics have a predisposition towards abnormally high levels of fats circulating in the blood.  This mean high triglycerids and cholesterol.  Diabetics need to do everything possibly to avoid the onset of vascular disease.  The main preventive measure include regular blood cholesterol monitoring and proper nutrition and food supplements.  Consult your physician, he will be able to help you with your diet plan and cholesterol monitoring.
