Diabetic Retinopathy

Diabetic retinopathy is the main cause of blindness in diabetics   Diabetic retinopathy affects the retina, which is important in recording what the eye sees (like film in the camera).  Damage to the retina affects the vision, while damage to other areas (for example, the macula) causes a drastic deterioration in vision.

Diabetic retinopathy is caused by a combination of disease in small blood vessels, as well as disturbance of the chemistry of the blood with an accumulation of certain products due to abnormal high blood sugar levels.

Preventive Measure:

Early detection of eye problems by regular examination of the eyes (every few months or yearly) is recommended for all diabetics.
